Local author, Carol Liu, engaged and inspired students and teachers alike in the media center last week as she spoke about differences, disabilities, and the power of the pen. Carol gave three – 45 minute presentations centered around her novel, Arlene on the Scene and on the importance of self-image. Arlene on the Scene, for students in grade 2-6, was written to raise much-needed awareness about the most common hereditary neuropathy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, or CMT. All earnings from the sale of the book will be donated to help people living with CMT. If your child missed the deadline to buy an autographed book, but after hearing the author would like to order a copy, download the order form and return it to the media center by this Thursday, May 17, 2012. Arlene On the Scene would be a great way to begin summer reading!

Kindergarten, first, and second graders will meet author Michelle Meadows on Friday, May 25th. We are looking forward to this visit, as well! You can download her book order form in this week’s Dragon Tales.

The second day starts at the same time, but has typically ended earlier (but this will be based on the # of children signed up). Westill need help both days…that means all 3 time slots on Monday, as well as the last shift (1:15-3:15pm) on Tuesday afternoon. We will take help whenever you can give it.

Please submit:
. Your child’s Kindergarten school portrait
. Your child’s 5th grade school portrait OR a candid photo of your child taken during their 5th grade year
. Any candid group pictures you’ve taken during your child’s time at Olney ES (think bus stop, class parties, field trips, etc.)

You can submit these photos in two ways:
1. Email files to adiuguid@comcast.net.  Depending on the size of your files, you may need to send more than one email.
2. Place the pictures in the attached Ziploc baggie and send it to school with your child.  Your child should drop the baggie into the box labeled “5th Grade Memories Photos.”

*** Label printed pictures with your child’s name and the grade he/she was in when the photo was taken (NOT the year the picture was taken).  Unlabeled pictures will not be included in the presentation. ***

*** All pictures are due by April 20, 2012 ***
